Susan’s love for dance started very early. At the age of five, she began dance lessons, putting on dance shows, making up routines with friends, and in high school, choreographing her team’s pom pon and dance routines.  Her father was an advocate of exercise, buying her first gym membership in 1986. And among a sea of shiny tights, leotards and legwarmers, Susan took her first aerobics class with now friend and fellow Detroit Vibe Tribe instructor, Cindy DeBiasi. Susan became a regular in Cindy’s classes and was inspired to become an instructor in 1988. She has been ACE certified since 1992. She has taught group exercise classes through the tape cassette, CD and iPod generations and has a passion for mixing her own music. She has taught many formats, including Hilo, step, slide, kickboxing and Hip Hop. Zumba Fitness caught her attention in 2007.

"As the industry moved to perfect 32 count music and the dreaded add-on routines, I continued my song-based choreography.  I couldn’t give up that incredible feeling you have when the moves actually GO with the music.  When I went to my first Zumba class, I was blown away. A whole new world of music and moves was opened up to me and finally… a fitness company that embraces the power of the music." – Susan

In 2010, Susan was one of 200 instructors selected worldwide by Zumba Fitness as a choreography specialist or Zumba Jammer. She regularly presents original choreography sessions for members of the Zumba Instructor Network (ZIN). She is licensed to teach Zumba Fitness, Zumba Kids, Zumba Toning and Strong by Zumba.

She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and retired as lead systems engineer after 25 years of service with the opening of Vibe Fit Studio in 2016 and has since returned to engineering part time.

Susan is co-owner of Vibe Fit. She enjoys spending time with her husband of 30 years and two children.

Christy Baas
Christy Baas

Becoming a fitness instructor nearly 15 years ago after taking Susan’s aerobics and hip hop classes was a natural fit for Christy after a lifetime of playing sports, many elementary recesses making up dance routines, and spending her college years as a high school coach.

She’s taught different exercise formats including aerobics, weightlifting, cycling and Pilates. In 2007, she found a fitness party like no other. While attending a national fitness convention in Chicago, she fell in love with ZUMBA and with Susan, brought Zumba Fitness to their classes in Dearborn, Michigan. Today she is a licensed Zumba Fitness instructor in Zumba, Aqua Zumba and Zumba Gold and Zumba Kids, Strong by Zumba and a PiYo and AFAA certified Group Exercise Instructor.

“One of the best parts of being a fitness instructor is helping people make life-changing, healthy improvements while having FUN!” – Christy
